8/13/00 UPDATE

This page represents the original message I presented when I first developed this webpage

2:00am, August 13 For the time being, I am throwing this page together as an easy way to keep people posted on the latest details of my battle with the beast .... melanoma.

Being fundamentally lazy, I figured the easiest way to do this is to post to a website and send everyone the site address and at your convenience, you can check in and see what is happening.

Later on, I might expand the site into some new cyber adventure, but for the meantime it will be a collection of simple messages (usually copied from emails or bulletin board messages I have sent/posted). Use the update link on the left to get to said collection. The link to Dan's Melanoma Page takes you back to chapter one in this battle, three years ago. Note: if you are having a tough time convincing your kids to wear sunscreen, show them the picture on that site.

As you may or may not know, tomorrow we are heading off to Houston's
MD Anderson Cancer Center, where I will be consulting with Dr. Mavligits, the world's foremost authority on doing liver infusions (chemotherapy directly to liver) for patients with metastatic melanoma to the liver, such as myself. If all goes according to plan, I will spend up to a week, starting Tuesday, as a guest at MDACC.  Our hotel will be the Crown Plaza.

Liz came up with the brilliant idea of getting a laptop for communicating with my fans, I mean, friends and family while we are there. I have my wonderful sister,
Dawn, to thank for arranging for me to borrow a laptop from her amazing friend, Paul Adams, who went to a lot of trouble to set it up, including the Freelance/Excite free internet service I hope to use in Houston. Paul has been recycling computers and setting them up and giving them to people with disabilites, primarily as a volunteer effort. His company is called Adaptive Computer Empowerment Services and I encourage any of you with used computer equipment, or better yet, connections that might help him receive funding, to get in touch with him.

Also, to the many people who have stopped by, called, emailed, and prayed for me and my family, I can only say thank you. The power of your love and support has been awesome and it is very deeply appreciated. I guess in this day and age, this is what is meant by "it takes a village".
